Frequently asked questions
The cord is braided nylon, thin but built for dogs up to 50 kg, which covers even large and powerful breeds. A sudden lunge is well within what it's made to take. Give it a quick look over every few months, the way you would any lead, and replace it if you ever spot fraying near the clip.
Yes. The brake is a single button under your thumb, so you can stop the cord the instant you need to, and press it fully to lock the length in place. No fiddling, no second hand. On busy pavements or near roads, most owners keep it locked short and only release it once they're somewhere open.
It's 5 metres when you want it and as short as you like when you don't. The lock holds the cord at whatever length suits the moment, so it stays close to heel through town and opens up once you reach the park. Think of the 5 metres as the ceiling, not the setting.
Both. The clip attaches to any standard D-ring, so it works with a collar, a harness or a head collar. If your dog pulls, a harness is the kinder option, and this lead pairs with one perfectly well.
It pulls back in smoothly on its own as your dog comes closer, so there's no slack dragging along the ground. If it ever comes back muddy, let it out fully, wipe the cord down with a damp cloth and let it dry before retracting it. Winding wet grit back inside is the one thing that shortens the life of any retractable lead.
